Potato Chips Were Invented By…
Ok, so as you all know, yours truly is always on some kind of health kick and watching what I eat. But, there is one snack I just cannot live without – potato chips!
Potato chips may be the most famous snack in America. And as we are into Black History Month, did you know potato chips were invented by a black man, Mr. George Crum?!?
Yep, he worked as a hunter, guide and a cook in the Adirondacks.
The birth of the potato chip (as yours truly understands it to be) occurred when a white customer who ordered a plate of French-fried potatoes sent them back to Crum’s kitchen because he felt they were too thick and soft. SO, Crum sliced a new batch of potatoes as thin as he possibly could and fried them until they were hard and crunchy. Then, he added a bunch of salt to his new creation.
And the result? The dish ended up being a hit with the restaurant patron and a new snack was born!
There is said to other cookbook with recipes for potato chips before Crum but, they say he is the creator Crum opened his own restaurant and had a basket of potato chips on every table. Although Crum never attempted to patent his invention, the snack was eventually mass produced and sold in bags, providing thousands of jobs across the nation.
So, a BIG thanks to George Crum for creating potato chips!
AMEN to that!
As his creation was a huge hit at most of the Superbowl parties yesterday. Congrats to the New England Patriots for winning last nights football game
